Since childhood, there haven't been many times Becky has not been looking after a four-legged friend. Fortunately, her passion became her career, which started in the equine world. In January 2022, Becky began the 18-month Accredited Pet Gundog Instructor programme consisting of 17 monthly home study assignments, and 3 practical workshops which took place in Scotland. As part of the programme, Becky has now gained 2 open college network level 3 certificates, covering Canine Studies and Canine Training and Behaviour providing a strong underpinned knowledge of dog psychology, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, training techniques, and so much more, as well as the academic side of the programme. Her own dogs had to be trained to a high standard in order to pass the course.
Upon successfully completing her training course she established Oakwood Dog Training.
One can imagine that an only dog is not quite enough for Becky. At the moment she shares her life with three Labradors, a rescue Whippet and a Patterdale Terrier. During the season Becky can be found on local shoots working her gundogs.
From novice puppy owners to training a dog for the shooting field, Becky’s skills will give you the help you need. Dogs, and gundogs in particular, are strong willed. It is Becky’s vision to support the next generation of dog owners to be able to live and share their home with a well-mannered and trained companion they can also take into public places without being challenged.
